Confirmation - Summary Form

DIOCESE OF ST ALBANS

THE BISHOP'S REGULATIONS

CONFIRMATION SUMMARY AND DECLARATION

A priest presenting candidates for Confirmation is asked to complete the form above and to hand it to the Bishop at the service. The Confirmation Register should also be brought, with the names already entered, to be signed by the Bishop. If a candidate is absent from the service, the priest presenting must see that their name is afterwards deleted.

Chaplains of permanent Institutions, such as schools or hospitals, may keep a register for the Institution. Otherwise every candidate must be entered in a Parish Register.

It is very difficult in these days to define the minimum age for presenting candidates for Confirmation. Normally the candidates should be older than twelve, but where (a) the religious education in Church Primary Schools is integrated with the life of the Worshipping Church and this leads normally to Confirmation, and (b) the Parish Priest, after considering the fitness of the candidate and their home environment, is satisfied that they could be presented at an earlier age than twelve, candidates under this age, and over ten, may be presented. If there is any doubt the matter should be referred to the Bishop. I ask that every case of a child under ten be referred to me.
