DIOCESAN EDUCATION TEAM

The Diocesan Education Team is based at the Diocesan Office in Holywell Lodge.

The Chairman of the Diocesan Board of Education is the Bishop of Bedford. The Board normally meets three times a year and sets policy for the Diocesan Team.

The Standing Committee of the Board of Education meets termly to set the Agenda for the Board. The Finance Advisory Group advise the Standing Committee on financial matters.

The Diocesan Education Term comprises:
Diocesan Director of Education
RE Adviser
School Buildings Officer
Schools Secretary (full-time)
Secretary to the RE Adviser (part-time)
General Adviser (Admissions & Appointments)

Support is also provided by the Resources Manager. Resources on provision of Collective Worship and Religious Education are available on loan from both the Resource Centre in Holywell Lodge and the Bedfordshire RE Centre at St Mark’s Church in Bedford.

The Diocesan Education Team exists to support the 133 Anglican schools through the Diocese of St Albans in many ways, including:-

  • Collective Worship
  • Denominational Religious Education
  • Schools Buildings (of Voluntary Aided Schools)
  • Insurance (of Voluntary Aided Schools)
  • Instruments of Government
  • Upholding the Trust Deed
  • Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural development of children
  • Senior staff appointments
  • Admissions to Voluntary Aided schools
  • Preparation for Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools
  • Standing Advisory Councils for Religious Education
  • School management issues
  • Training for teachers, governors and clergy
  • Support for schools in an Ofsted category
  • Liaison with Local Authorities
  • Liaison with the National Society, other dioceses and other religious bodies
