Penal Affairs Group

' ........ I was in prison and you came to me.'

(Matthew 25 v 36)

This group has been formed to provide a focus for criminal justice issues in the diocese and to form a network of Christians within it, who share a concern for these issues. Commitment, in the first instance, is to:-

  • Informing ourselves about criminal justice issues and relating them to our faith / theology,
  • Informing others and raising awareness within the diocese, including providing prayer / study materials and in-put to Continuing Ministerial Education,
  • Telling congregations about opportunities that exist to help practically, in order to recruit volunteers from across the diocese,
  • Having a voice in the political environment and bringing pressure to bear on policy-makers,
  • Building partnerships with bodies such as HACRO (Hertfordshire Assocation for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders) that share our concerns,
  • Linking up with similar groups in other dioceses (where they exist), with church-based groups at the national level and ecumenical groups, nationally or locally.
