Herts and Beds children celebrate during the day they didn’t want to end
The Diocese of St Albans’ first ever day celebrating the children of the diocese drew over three hundred children to St Albans Cathedral on Saturday, 9 May.
It was an enormous success. Children came from all over Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, learnt about the lives of children in other parts of the world and heard stories about children in the Bible. The event marked the thirtieth anniversary of the Year of the Child and drew attention to the role children play in the Christian story, not just in the pages of the Bible, but today.
The faces of the children said they were having a marvellous time. Their day was filled with worship, visits to virtual continents, table top activities, drumming workshops, an illusionist, drama workshops and a chocolate fountain to boost flagging energy levels.
A group of children from Langleybury came, with adult helpers.
The adults said “We were thrilled with the whole thing. We loved seeing the children so engrossed all day (and have stolen all sorts of ideas to use on other occasions…!)”
One child didn’t want the day to end, saying “It could have been longer!”
But they all felt it could not have been a better day.
The group came from St Paul’s School Langleybury and included children from St Paul’s Church, All Saints Leavsden, Soul Survivor, St Luke’s Watford and no church at all.
