Canon David Cheetham, the Bishop’s Legal Secretary and Diocesan Registrar, will retire on 3rd August 2011 after thirty-three years’ exceptional service to the Diocese.
Bishop of St Albans' Christmas Sermon speaks of Greater Love
The Bishop of St Albans, the Rt Revd Alan Smith, uses his Christmas sermon in St Albans Cathedral to speak of the inspiring beauty of Christ’s vulnerable love, telling of Christ ‘pitching his tent’ among us.
He continues, speaking of the unrest brought by forces that seek to divide society such as racism and terrorism, he goes on to warn that “such open, vulnerable love is no panacea. It challenges us and our world. And sometimes it provokes the powers of evil to fight back, which was why at the end of his short life this vulnerable baby would be hung on a cross”.

Sleepout - a 'great success, despite the cold and low turnout
“Sleepout was a great success, but I t was a hard, cold night for the 140 Sleeping Out for homeless people on Firday and numbers were down due to the cold. But it is even harder for those sleeping outside every night,” said the Chair of Sleepout, Brian Peyton.

Armistice Day Service Funeral in Tring
On Thursday 11th November at 11.30am, St Peter & St Paul, Tring hosted the funeral service for Corporal David Barnsdale, a young man of twenty-four. Corporal Barnsdale, from 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), was killed in Afghanistan on 19 October 2010.

Ten Downing Street has announced that the Revd Canon Paul Bayes, 56, is to be the next Suffragan Bishop of Hertford in the Diocese of St Albans. Canon Bayes will be one of the two Suffragan Bishops in the diocese, assisting the Bishop of St Albans, and his ministry will mainly focus on the parishes and communities of Hertfordshire. He succeeds The Rt Revd Christopher Foster, now Bishop of Portsmouth.
