CMD (Continuing Ministerial Development)
The Ministry Development Team offers a programme of events for clergy and Readers, administers Sabbatical Leave for clergy and supports and advises on further study.

Sabbaticals
Under the Diocese of St Albans Scheme, Stipendiary clergy are entitled to take a sabbatical every ten years providing that:
- They have been ordained for more than ten years
- They have been in their present post for at least three years
- They are not within five years of retirement
The Ministry Development Officer writes on behalf of the Bishop to invite eligible clergy to take the sabbatical. The Sabbatical may be taken within a three year slot, so, for example, those invited to take Sabbatical in 2011 can take the Sabbatical in 2011, 2012 or 2013. After that it lapses unless special permission is sought.
Further Study
For those thinking of doing some further study, for example, post-graduate degrees, BAs or Diplomas, The Ministry Development Office can offer advice on courses.
Grants
There are grants available for training for clergy, Readers, Retired ministers and occassionally lay people. There are also grants available to clergy for: post-graduate study, books, sabbaticals. Click on this link to the Grants page to download forms.
