Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction - sometimes known as Spiritual Accompaniment, with the Director being called a Spiritual Director, Soulfriend or Spiritual Companion - is the prayerful ministry by which one Christian accompanies another, seeking to enable them to discern the place and work of God in their life and to deepen their spirituality, that is, their relationship with God.

In the Diocese of St. Albans, we offer a Brokering Scheme to link up those seeking spiritual direction and those available to offer it. In addition, we offer training for those who wish to train as Spiritual Directors through the Sharing the Journey Course.

Finding a Director (Brokering Scheme)

Finding the 'right' person to accompany one's spiritual journey is a delicate process, and sometimes the person you begin with you will see for many years. Sometimes you may make a change due to a move in house, a move in job or simply because the time may feel right.

Sally Sanderson co-ordinates this scheme. You can contact Sally on 01923 265963 or via email.

Spiritual Directors (Spiritual Direction Scheme and Code of Conduct)

All Directors who are offered through the Brokering Scheme are expected to have undertaken both initial training through a recognised body and participate in ongiong regular training. In addition, Directors are expected to conform to our Code of Practice and required to be part of a confidential Supervision Group.
