World Development

And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God

Micah 6:8

Fairtrade

In February 2007 the Diocese was awarded Fairtrade status by the Fairtrade Foundation. Over 70% of parishes from around the diocese are now fairtrade churches. If you are interested in your church becoming a Fairtrade church please contact Sue Bentley via the Diocesan Office on 01727 851748 or sue.bentley@stalbans.anglican.org for further details.

Latest:

The Adam Smith Institute, an economic think tank, has published a report criticising the fair-trade movement. Sue Bentley, the diocese’s World Development Adviser has answered some of the criticisms.

She said: “To some extent this strikes me as a negative reaction to Fairtrade’s continued success. The Fairtrade vision puts justice and sustainable development at the heart of trade structures and corrects market failures to make the trading system work for everyone, thereby actually enabling the free trade model to flourish.”

Even though you offer me your burnt-offerings and grain-offerings, I will not accept them; and the offerings of well being of your fatted animals I will not look upon.

Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps.

But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like and everlasting stream.

Amos 5: 22-24
