Charities for Homeless People
There are several charities working to support homeless people in the diocese. Many of these have received support through the annual Sleepout Event at the Cathedral.

Run entirely by a dedicated staff of volunteers, Centre 33 is a drop-in centre where homeless and socially or materially disadvantaged people in the St Albans community can come to relax, be social, and enjoy a free meal and a drink in a friendly, welcoming environment.

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, DENS works to improve the lives of homeless people. DENS Night Shelter and Move-On-Accommodation provide emergency and longer term accommodation in safe surroundings for those in need. DENS Day Centre provides food, hot drinks and a place to go during the day to get off the streets.
Luton Accommodation & Move-On Project (LAMP) Ground Floor, 17-21 Napier Road, Luton, Bedfordshire. LU1 1RF. Tel: 01582 431744 or email. LAMP aims to provide advice, support and opportunities for young people to develop independent living skills. The service is offered to young people aged 16 to 25 years who are homeless, living in temporary accommodation or likely to become homeless within the Borough of Luton.
Leighton Linslade Homelessness Service c/o The Salvation Army, Lammas Walk, Leighton Buzzard LU7 1JB. The service offers short term emergency shelter, supplies and support services to people who are homeless or about to become homeless.
Open Door's premises in St Albans is presently being refurbished. They can be contacted on Tel: 01727 859113 or email. Normally Open Door is open 365 days a year; the opening hours are from 6pm to 8.15am. There is overnight accommodation for single homeless adults in 8 rooms each with 2 beds. A cooked meal and hot drinks are provided in a welcoming atmosphere. Clients need to be referred. The referral is for 28 nights during which time workers aim to help them find other accommodation.

There is also a WNHT charity shop at the same location and several other premises including The Haven Day Centre open from 9am to 12.30pm, Monday - Saturday, food and hot drinks are provided free of charge and clients have access to a shower, laundry facilities and clothing. Referrals are made through the Outreach Team at the Day Centre for The Sanctuary Night shelter which is open from 3.30pm - 9.00am Monday to Saturday, and all day Sunday.

A Christian registered charity, working with a wide range of homeless clients in Bedford since 1989. It provides a weekly outreach meal for up to 40 to 50 rough sleepers and homeless clients per session; 18 bed direct-access overnight accommodation and Rough Sleepers Outreach Service; a 14 bed hostel providing supported accommodation for between 30 to 40 residents per year and Onward Floating Support helping the hardest to reach homeless clients.
