Local Groups Raise Awareness of HIV / AIDS
In response to AIDS as ‘forgotten but not gone,’ an exhibition to raise awareness of HIV / AIDS and the needs of sufferers takes place at St Albans Cathedral from 29th November to 4th December.
With the number of people in the UK being diagnosed with HIV doubling in the past ten years, the exhibition entitled ‘Living Here, Caring Now’ is timely.
It has been organised by the Diocese of St Albans, and representatives from local HIV / AIDS Support Centres.
The Revd Andrew Coleby, Social Responsibility Officer for the Diocese, said, ‘Within the Diocese of St Albans there are approximately 1600 people accessing services in connection with HIV / AIDS. We want to reach out to anyone affected by AIDS and to inform the whole community about the dramatic impact it has on people’s lives.’
Susan Roberts, Chair of the Diocesan HIV / AIDS Support Group, said, ‘We hope that this exhibition will help to clarify what HIV / AIDS is really all about, and how we can be part of the caring process for those coping with this diagnosis on a daily basis.’
The Exhibition also ties in to World AIDS Day on 1st December, a day set aside each year to focus on this ongoing pandemic that touches lives locally, nationally and around the globe.
