The diocesan Reader Training Scheme is overseen by the part-time Reader Ministry Officer, Lauryn Awbrey, who is part of the Ministry Development Team.

A new training scheme was introduced in September 2009 called Learning for Discipleship. The programme is open to anyone who wishes to deepen their knowledge and faith, whether in licensed ministry or not. It is run in three centres in the diocese: Bedford, St Albans and Welwyn Garden City.
