Ash Wednesday – share your stories
Ash Wednesday, 1 March, is the day when Lent begins, the forty-day period of fasting and preparation for the joy of Easter, when Jesus Christ rose from the dead.
The Rector of Bushey, Fr Neil Kelley was at Bushey Station very early on Ash Wednesday morning offering people a chance to mark the beginning of Lent with ash and a blessing.
Around thirty people took up the offer between 6 and 7 am. Fr Neil said it was “an amazing experience.” he will be in Bushey High Street later today.
Ashes to Go (http://ashestogo.org) is a movement that began in the USA, but has crossed the Atlantic. Their website says: that it: “brings spirit, belief, and belonging out from behind church doors, and into the places where we go every day. It’s a simple event with deep meaning, drawing on centuries of tradition and worship to provide a contemporary moment of grace.”
You can share your, or your parish’s story and pictures of how you marked Ash Wednesday using the hashtags #AshesToGo #AshWednesday or #AshTag
