Bishop Alan Commissions St Albans Cursillo’s New Spiritual Director

Fr Sam Frampton Cursillo spiritual DirectorThe St Albans Cursillo met for their first face to face gathering since the start of the pandemic on Saturday 26th February. Some 18 Cursillistas got together and enjoyed and were inspired by, an action talk by the Revd Sam Frampton.  Later, Bishop Alan, Bishop of St Albans commissioned Sam (on the left of photo) as their new Spiritual Director.

Cursillo is a movement which originated in the 1940s in the Roman Catholic Church in Spain and has since spread to many countries. Eduardo Bonin – the founder of Cursillo said ‘It is possible to encounter God in many ways other than Cursillo – encountering God is easy – it is following Christ afterwards that is the problem’.

The Cursillo method works by forming groups of Christians who live out their faith in their family, neighbourhood, parish and workplace. It provides them with support and encouragement in this, with the focus on prayer, study and action. This is done through a combination of small local groups (Group Reunions) complemented by less frequent area gatherings (Ultreyas). All are encouraged to follow a Rule of Life, including Spiritual Direction.

If you are interested in find out more about Cursillo visit their website: www.stalbanscursillo.com.  Or you might like to attend a Cursillo weekend, where the team of lay people and spiritual advisers give a series of 15 talks covering the basics of Christian Living focusing on the mission concepts of prayer, study and action. As a result of the weekends many Christians become more active in their churches as they become more aware of their gifts. The next one runs from 23 and 25 September 2022 and you can get details here.
