The Bishop of St Albans, Dr Alan Smith has commented on the sale of Vauxhall to PSA Peugeot Citroen.
He said:
“Vauxhall is a vital part of Luton’s economy. The managers and workers have a strong track record as a flexible and highly efficient business. In the light of the assurances from Vauxhall’s purchaser, PSA, and the “cautious optimism” of the Government I look forward to a strong future. Nevertheless, we live in uncertain times and reassurances can vanish all too quickly. In particular, it is important that pensions are protected. I will be watching closely with the people of Luton for any changes of wind. I believe that good businesses can be good neighbours to the Luton community which has weathered so many changes with determination”.
