Arrivals and Departures

Removal Expenses

Once your appointment in St Albans diocese has been confirmed, please send three removal estimates to the Estates Department. Unless there is a good reason for not doing so, it is generally more cost-effective to carry out removals on Mondays and Tuesdays.  The Board encourages you to move on these days. We expect you to accept the lowest quote and please note that the Diocesan Board of Finance will pay for packing but not unpacking. Pickfords and Bishop’s Move offer a 10% discount if you say you are moving to St Albans diocese. We suggest choosing a local firm to provide the third quote. The DBF will pay your removal contractor’s account directly to the contractor as soon as possible, provided you have sent copies of three estimates. Some removal contractors require payment in advance and this can be arranged provided the contractor concerned submits an official invoice to this office in good time.

If you have contents insurance it may not be necessary to take out additional removal insurance, so please check your policy wording.

Please let the Estates Department know as soon as you have a firm moving date so that Council Tax payments can be arranged.

Resettlement Grants

The Board pays to stipendiary clergy of incumbent status a resettlement grant (£2,527 as from 1 April 2021) towards the cost of any necessary alterations to or purchases of furnishings and other expenses incidental to the removal.

First Appointment Grants

The Board also pays a grant (£2,527 as from 1 April 2021) to clergy taking up a first incumbency, to help towards the cost of setting up home in a parsonage house.

Appointments and Stipends

The administrative processes relating to new appointments are currently changing to tie in with the introduction of the National Clergy Register and associated changes to payroll management.

At the time of writing, new appointees to St Albans diocese are routinely sent the Annual Stipends Letter 2022, a Clergy Movement Form and the Housing Handbook . Please make sure you complete the Clergy Movement Form as we will need the bank details to set up the stipend and for payment of the grants.

Moving On

Please let the Estates Department know when you will be moving out of your house so that the appropriate Council Tax authority can be notified.
