Parishes
In St Albans Diocese there are 336 parishes in 20 Deaneries (see map).
Wherever you live in the diocese, or in England for that matter, you are in a Church of England parish.
That means that the Church of England is a Christian presence in every community. Our churches, schools and chaplaincies serve the whole community, whatever the faith or belief of those within them.
Parishioners, the people who live within the parish, are entitled to receive the ministry of the church for baptism, marriage and burial.
Legally, a parish is a territorial unit which runs under the pastoral care and clerical jurisdiction of one parish priest, who might be assisted in his pastoral duties by a curate or curates.
