Messy Church Does Science (MDT) (14/09/2019)
14th September @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
The world of families who are part of Messy Church is one that is permeated with science – from the media people watch, through the AI that shapes their choices in smart phone searches, to lessons in school from childhood into adolescence. As creative an expression of human abilities as art and music, science explores the wonder of God’s creation yet is one that is often neglected or avoided in church life.
How might science within Messy Church expresses its “DNA” of Hospitality, Creativity and Celebration, enabling families to experience the joy of science, encounter the God of creation and counter the notion that science and faith do not mix? This workshop, aimed at those who lead Messy Church as well as those who work with families in local church settings and schools, will enable participants to practically explore these issues, and getting hands one with some simple science experiments, gain confidence in helping children and adults fit science and faith together in their exploration of God’s life and world.
Dave Gregory is Ministry Team Leader of Croxley Green Baptist Church and former President (2018-19) of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. Dave runs science activities in the Messy Church in Croxley Green and is editor of the book “Messy Church Does Science” published by the Bible Reading Fellowship, running training events exploring how churches can engage families with both science and faith. He is also a board member of the John Ray Initiative which aims to bring together scientific and Christian understandings of the environment.
