Friends of Osborne House
‘Provides assistance to those suffering from financial hardship because of homelessness and related issues.’
Two of the Trustees (half the total number) administering this Fund are from within our St Albans Diocese community.
A little background:- Osborne House first opened its doors in 1979 providing overnight refuge for those without shelter. Friends of Osborne House was formed to raise money to cover costs of running the house. The house ran for around 20 years supported by money from the Deanery of Cheshunt and the ‘Friends’ trust, before having to be passed on to another charity.
Individual grant applications are welcomed, however, rely on referral from clergy, charitable organisations, social workers, others working to support those suffering hardship. Please contact Barry Reid (Chairman) on tel: 01992 637351.
In response to referrals, help has been given in a variety of ways, for example:
- Replacement cooker
- New pair of shoes
- Clothes for an interview
- Bicycle to attend college – Funeral costs
- Household linen
- Kitchen equipment
- Overnight temporary accommodation
- Educational courses
