Our Looking

What progress have you made with the Goals from your previous MAP, and what do you want to celebrate?

  • Little Sparks (Sunday School)now meets weekly in the upstairs room. 5 years ago when our last MAP was signed off we had no children's work and just one 1 year old child attending church. We now have about 8/10 children on our books, although most are only occasional attenders.
  • We are now routinely open for Carnival , Classic Car Rally , Lights of Love and other community events happening in the vicinity of the Church.
  • We now have an annual service for the bereaved which is well received.

What Goals did you set where you saw less progress than you would have liked?

  • We still have no effective follow up programme for those who have been baptised or been to funerals.Such a programme needs the active involvement of a group of people from the church, not just the clergy to be effective, however led by and modelled by the clergy.
  • The only progress on the church fabric has been the redecoration of the children's room. Over the last 5 years we have had periods of time with no churchwardens and this is still the situation.

Things seen about our local community

  • Buntingford is seeing significant new house building and consequently significant numbers of new people moving into the town. The design and position of the new developments and the turnover of people risks fragmenting the previously very strong sense of local community.
  • Many non-church goers are neither pro nor anti Christianity, they are just indifferent to faith.
  • We need to develop more effective ways of nurturing people who join us.

How have you begun to engage with these concerns / needs / issues?

  • We place inserts into the welcome pack for new home owners with details of the Buntingford churches.
  • We have now run children's craft events at Christmas and Easter.
  • We have a a house Group in the parish

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

In 5 years time we want to be described as a community of inclusive worshipping believers growing in faith together and nurturing each other’s faith; showing welcome ,love care and support to one another and the wider community; aspiring to a depth of spiritual maturity grounded in a solid understanding of the Bible; underpinned by an attitude of prayer, so that we can reach the local and wider community in all its forms with the transforming power of the gospel.

Current Situation

From our Parish Statistics for Mission, we see that we are / have...

From our Parish Mission Statistics we can see that we over the last few years seen a very gradual increase of numbers in both adults and children. Bearing in mind our very small numbers it was agreed to concentrate on two major priorities for the next year in the hope that we will achieve some success.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • 1) Families a) Instituting an All Age Service b) Following up Baptisms and Bereavements c) Continuing Craft Sessions for Festivals
  • 2) Introducing a basic Christianity course

Goals (for the next year)

  • Encouraging more Families
  • Following up Baptism and Funeral contacts
  • Basic Christianity course
