Our Looking

Things seen about our local community

  • We are fortunate that in our small parish we have a Lower School, Sports & Social Club, Pub, toddler group and church. There are many organisations in the village that help to enhance social interaction within the parish.
  • There has been a small increase in the number of young families in the village.
  • The parish has a good mix of socio-economic groups, but does not have a wide range of ethnic groups.

Three things we have seen about our church

  • We have a small but strong core committed congregation, with a significantly larger number attending the monthly Family Services and 'festival' services. However, as a percentage of the village population, the attendance is encouraging.
  • Our Sunday School and Junior Choir continue to grow and play a vital part in our services and outreach. However, as they get older many leave due to sporting commitments on Sunday mornings.
  • We have a very strong ethos of welcome, and of serving the community.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

A church that is growing in faith, and in numbers, and that is welcoming and vibrant. Members of the church are living out their discipleship in their daily lives and are actively involved in mission on their 'frontlines'. The church is the focal point of the community, serving the village in practical ways.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Going Deeper into God: to increase our confidence in, and knowledge of, the Bible and of prayer.
  • Making New Disciples: to find creative ways to reach out to families, children, and young people.
  • Transforming Communities: to continue to develop the use of the church building in serving the community.

Goals (for the next year)

  • Re-start the Benefice youth group in order to retain and reach children and young people aged 10+
  • Build on the contacts we have in our groups to hold an Alpha/Christianity Explored course (or similar).
  • Start a new, Benefice-wide, celebration service specifically aimed at younger families, at a time when they can attend.
  • Encourage members of the congregation to try new ways of studying the Bible for themselves at home and in small groups.
  • Build on our growing wedding, funeral and baptism ministry by inviting people to special services.
