Our Looking
Things seen about our local community
- An attractive area & outwardly parish appears affluent & comfortable, no obvious poverty so discernment needed for real needs.
- People lead busy lives with many activities and networks. For many 'church' does not seem relevant.
- Northaw CE Primary School is an important area for mission.
Three things we have seen about our church
- Newcomers tells us church is welcoming and friendly, there are many committed & enthusiastic members, but they are ageing.
- Our two church buildings are in prominent locations, but having two churches is at the moment a challenge rather than a blessing
- Publicity and communication are vital and could be a lot better.
Our Discerning
Vision (for five years' time)
A welcoming, lively and joyful community of Christians of all ages, growing in faith and fellowship and reaching out in God's love. Young and old feel a sense of belonging and want to be involved. Integral to the local community, making the gospel relevant to modern life.
Priorities (for the next five years)
- Revitalize our worship to appeal to newcomers as well as long-standing church members. Encourage newcomers to want to know more.
- To grow in numbers and in faith across all age groups.
- To use our buildings more effectivley for the benefit of the community. ALSO SEE ATTACHED - UPDATED MAP GOALS - recd June 2014.
Goals (for the next year)
- Have a variety of services/worship to appeal to newcomers as well as existing members - aim to increase Sunday attendance.
- Review every aspect of welcome and implement appropriate changes, inc. formation of a welcome team, by end Aug '12.
- Hold a Northaw School Service every week during term time and involve congregation members in hosting/leading these.
- Hold six events in 2012 for children & families, combining Christian teacahing with fun/play (Messy Church or similar).
- Research 3 possible ways of developing St Andrew's church and Undercroft so they can be used 7 days a week by community.
