Our Looking

Things seen about our local community

  • The demography of our congregation does not match that of the community.
  • The secularisation of society has moved many away from the Church.
  • Our commuter town is divided geographically and socially by the railway line.

Three things we have seen about our church

  • Gradual decline in church attendance.
  • Average age of our congregation is 58 years.
  • Church centre is on the outskirts of Flitwick and not visible.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

Our vision is to be a church that is growing in every way with people of all ages deepening their faith and growing more confident in their Christian witness. We will seek to make all our worship, spiritual development and social encounters within the Church and Community lively, meaningful and relevant for our time. Through our ecumenical work with other denominations we will continue to build a more visible unity for the good of everyone. It would be good to see our buildings used to their fullest potential.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Worship and spiritual development and extending our ministry to those who come for Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals.
  • Raising our visibility in the local community and seeking to respond to any local needs where possible.
  • Repairs/refurbishments to Bells and Chapter House to further enhance the environment for mission.

Goals (for the next year)

  • Contributing to a local Food Bank.
  • Review our worship patterns and content.
  • Seek ways to increase our contacts with local schools.
