Our Looking

Things seen about our local community

  • The parish is diverse and both parts have strengths and difficulties.
  • The town is changing rapidly.
  • The age group in our congregation is mostly high.

Three things we have seen about our church

  • The profile of St Mary's is very low in Hemel Hempstead.
  • There may be a need to adapt our building to be more accessible and welcoming.
  • We will need to re-focus on our approach to children and young people.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

A Church that is flourishing and growing and working in the community for all people, whatever their age, gender or background. We will be a Church where prayer surrounds all our activities.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Enhance the profile of St Mary's.
  • Improve the accessibility and use of our two buildings.
  • Develop the work with children and young people and vulnerable adults.

Goals (for the next year)

  • Reaching out to the community by improving signage at all entrances at St Mary's.
  • Maintain and enhance our profile. Ensure that information in press and other local bodies is correct and prominent.
  • Follow up successful pew shortening exercise, to improve disabled access.
  • Improve hall for community lettings and disabled use.
  • Expand work with children and young families, the elderly and vulnerable adults.
