Our Looking

Things seen about our local community

  • There is a significant changing population as people move in and out of the village.
  • There has been surprising hostility from some residents towards our plans to build a new centre.
  • Our society has moved significantly away from the Christian foundation from which it has benefited.

Three things we have seen about our church

  • We are growing, our age profile is expanding. This presents new opportunities and challenges.
  • Our finances, whilst fairly stable, are too reliant on a few generous donors.
  • There are sections of the community with which we have very little contact.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

We have a vision to build a new church centre in the heart of the community and serve th community more effectively from that physical base. We have struggled to articulate a more precise five-year vision this year because this project has been very time-consuming. 'Our Looking' has, however, identified weaknesses in our understanding of our context. Our first priority, therefore, is to continue our invesitgation into our current situation. It is hoped that this time next year, when we are better informed about our present circumstances (we will also know whether our new centre can be built), we will be better able to cast a meaningful longer term vision.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • To obtain a clear picture of our setting and our purpose within that setting.
  • To be financially stable.
  • To pursue our plans for new premises in the centre of the village.

Goals (for the next year)

  • To canvass the views of church members about our vision and mission.
  • To organise a stewardship campaign.
  • To plan a significant role in supporting the village's celebrations of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.
  • To re-apply for planning permission for our new Church Centre.
  • To take steps towards reconciliation with those who have aggressively opposed our building plans.
