Our Looking
What progress have you made with the Goals from your previous MAP, and what do you want to celebrate?
- Following the appointment of a children's/families outreach worker, we have seen a huge increase in the activities offered/outreach to parents/carers and babies/pre-school/children through Mustardseeds, Smarties and Messy Church
- We have a clearer idea of how we are viewed by the outside community, following the survey carried out at St. Martin's Centenary Celebrations/Exhibition
- We have embraced the opportunity for outreach and engagement with the community by offering the Church as a temporary home for the Library during redevelopment of the site
What Goals did you set where you saw less progress than you would have liked?
- An overall Pastoral Care plan has not been fully implemented.
- A regular time of corporate prayer has proved unsustainable. This is possibly because of a failure to find the right time/location, and possibly because of a lack of understanding of the significance of corporate prayer
Things seen about our local community
- People are leading busy lives and Church is not a priority for them.
- There is a lack of sense of community and integration.
- We don't know how the Church is perceived by the community.
How have you begun to engage with these concerns / needs / issues?
- Through children's activities (see above) at different times during the week. Through the use of the church building for other activities
- Through holding social and entertaining events for all
- Through surveying the wider community
Our Discerning
Vision (for five years' time)
A Church at the heart of the community, with a heart for Jesus, the community and each other.
Current SituationFrom our Parish Statistics for Mission, we see that we are / have...
We are seeing an encouraging increase in the number of children and the overall number of people worshipping, but there is a gap in the 11-18 age range.
Priorities (for the next five years)
- To go deeper into God.
- To transform our community.
- To make disciples of Jesus.
Goals (for the next year)
- Serve the community by welcoming and facilitating the library to use the Church
- Organise outreach to coincide with the opening of the library, e.g. tea and coffee, second-hand Christian books
- Continue to implement a pastoral care plan for young families, to include regularly reviewing attendance at events and following up with personal contact.
- Invite some Christian agencies to talk about their ministry; have a retiring collection for them
- Hold a review of the role of Housegroups in pastoral care
