Our Looking

Things seen about our local community

  • Largest parish in deanery of Rickmansworth, pop 10,500 - only parish with 3 churches.
  • Placed near both London and Heathrow, commuter territory.
  • Also has a diversity of housing from Heronsgate at the wealthy end, middleclass (Rickmansworth) to housing estates in Mill End and Maple Cross.

Three things we have seen about our church

  • St Peter's has the largest congregation with probably the greatest potential for growth. Good relationship with church school.
  • St Thomas's has smaller, faithful congregation with active Friends organisation. Church plant at Maple Cross has good potential
  • St John's has smaller & older congregation, but part of boundaried housing community which regard the church as important.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

Worshipping community of Christians, filled with the Holy Spirit, showing Christ's love to each other and also involved in the wider community. Welcoming new prople in to our churches which will be open to the wider parish for use during the day. Thriving and growing numerically and in depth of faith through teaching and learning from each other in small groups. Encouraging children and young people's groups. Reaching out to wider community through baptisms, marriages and funerals and offering appropriate follow-up.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Improve how we communicate internally as churches and externally to the wider parish.
  • Review and renew our worship.
  • Integrate opportunities to study and learn together, eg. housegroups, regularly into our life.

Goals (for the next year)

  • To establish a small communications group to prioritise the communication needs identified, and to act on them.
  • To establish a small worship group to review current services & ensure they meet needs of our diverse parish.
  • To establish a group to plan ahead a programme of study and nurture for a 12 month period.
