Our Looking

Things seen about our local community

  • The majority of people of the parish support the church, but very few come regularly on a Sunday.
  • The village has a high proportion of pensioners and few young families, though with some proposed housing development this may change. For example, a majority of the children attending the Lower School come from nearby Sandy.
  • Moggerhanger is a very small village with a good community spirit.

Three things we have seen about our church

  • The church is central to the community, reaching out with welcome parties, coffee mornings and the shop.
  • There is a very small, but hard working, faithful congregation.
  • We are good at social events which the parish support.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

A church that is growing in faith, and in numbers, and that is welcoming and vibrant. Members of the church are living out their discipleship in their daily lives and are actively involved in mission on their 'frontlines'. Our building is more fit for purpose for the 21st century, playing a part in our welcome and mission.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Going Deeper into God: to increase our confidence in, and knowledge of, the Bible and prayer.
  • Making New Disciples: to find creative ways to reach out to families, children, and young people.
  • Transforming Communities: To continue to develop the use of the church building in serving the community.

Goals (for the next year)

  • Re-start the Benefice Youth Group in order to reach children and young people aged 10+
  • Build on the contacts we have to hold an Alpha/Christianity Explored course or similar.
  • Start a new, Benefice-wide, celebration service specifically aimed at younger families, at a time when they can attend.
  • Encourage members of the congregation to try new ways of studying the Bible for themselves at home and in small groups.
  • Develop the building further - as a priority consider how a toilet may be installed and storage improved.
