Our Looking

What progress have you made with the Goals from your previous MAP, and what do you want to celebrate?

  • We have added Pop-Up Choirs and Community Singing Nights, Tuesday Cafe, Monthly Community Lunches, Craft Group. Pilot events have become regular and well supported.
  • Added Mini-M play and chat sessions. Junior Church sessions during some services.
  • Moving out wards - we have taken fund-raising sales outside church into the sunshine - and to the Memorial Hall Fete - being visible and making new contacts out in the community.

What Goals did you set where you saw less progress than you would have liked?

  • Possibly - looking out to the wider world and persecuted Christians in particular.

Things seen about our local community

  • Local poverty and debt. People getting older and more infirm - illness, loneliness.
  • Need for Carers and Toddler activity. Teenager out and about with nothing to do and nowhere to be. People wanting someone to pray with them.
  • The Tower - is prized by the people of Shefford and is not only important to the congregation. Struggling businesses.

How have you begun to engage with these concerns / needs / issues?

  • We have engaged a Parish Nurse - who kindly donates 2 days a week to our Benefice, runs Community Lunch and shares pastoral care, etc.
  • We have a 'help yourself' food shelf and in addition to gifts from the congregation we have an arrangement with a local charity to use their funds to help residents of Shefford with small grants for emergency electricity supply for example.
  • We have added a variety of social activities which are being frequented by many from outside our usual congregations.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

Open, open to the Holy Spirit, to change, to everyone daily.

Current Situation

From our Parish Statistics for Mission, we see that we are / have...

these reveal very little about the real life of our Church - however, we note that while we have many more people coming into the church and a growing worship community, numbers for our Sunday Services remain fairly static.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Prayer. Reaching out to the community in love and service.
  • Sharing the Good News - and inviting people to follow Jesus. Looking out into the world - to find projects we can support in very practical ways.
  • Our building - particularly looking to the community involvement our Tower Project will bring.

Goals (for the next year)

  • Develop further and varied opportunities for prayer - eg. healing prayer after services. Continue to develop our pastoral ministry and explore ways of developing ministry with the commercial centres of the town.
  • Equipped to Share - explore new ways of intentionally sharing the message of Jesus and inviting people to follow Him.
  • Still needing to improve communication: we will update our website and develop a Facebook page.
  • Continue to pray for persecuted and displaced people - but also extend our involvement to be far more hands on and practical in our care for them.
  • Continue to focus on our ministry of hospitality for all ages. Continue with our open group and pop-up events - to draw together our church family and to welcome newcomers. Continue with major repairs to 'Our Tower'.
