Our Looking

What progress have you made with the Goals from your previous MAP, and what do you want to celebrate?

  • Improved the interior with a minor refurbishment project. Did some training for welcomers/sides team.
  • PCC had a workshop on Communications. New magazine. Work in progress.
  • Housegroups re-launched. Social events introduced.

What Goals did you set where you saw less progress than you would have liked?

  • To work ecumenically – some progress but logistics of delivering leaflets a hurdle.
  • No welcome leaflets produced – lack of consensus

Things seen about our local community

  • Our parish has many older people living on their own. High house prices mean younger families need two incomes to live here.
  • Our church and hall are close to local shops and used by a good number of non-church organisations.
  • We have good relationships with other churches in area through Churches Together in Marshalswick (CTM)

How have you begun to engage with these concerns / needs / issues?

  • 1. Holiday at Home – four days of activities including an outing each summer for elderly people living alone.
  • Reaching out to the local community by restructuring our Flip Sunday (once a month) service to make it more accessible.
  • Collect for Food Bank, once a month at St Mary’s and three times a year (ecumenically) at local supermarket.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

OUR VISION is to be a welcoming church where everyone’s spiritual and pastoral needs are met, and all are involved, enabling us to be a Christian witness to the people of our community.

Current Situation

From our Parish Statistics for Mission, we see that we are / have...

We have an elderly, declining congregation, many of whom are struggling with health issues and loneliness. We need to renew and grow without losing our mission to the elderly.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • To encourage parishioners to develop and grow in their relationship with God.
  • To encourage members of the congregation to become more involved in the church as a community; and, as a church, to be more involved in the community.
  • To nurture and grow our church family.

Goals (for the next year)

  • Develop Flip Sunday Service (monthly) to be more accessible and actively invite people to it.
  • To produce welcome literature and distribute it throughout parish and continue to develop our communications overall including our website.
  • Introduce a pastoral support system including baptism and bereavement visiting.
  • Continue to develop small groups including housegroups, nurture groups, and social groups.
  • Engage more ecumenically so that we work towards sharing resources, people and experience and encourage the whole congregation to support ecumenical services and events.
