Our Looking

What progress have you made with the Goals from your previous MAP, and what do you want to celebrate?

  • We now hold a monthly coffee afternoon in church for older people in the village
  • We now open the church at weekends
  • We now have a Facebook Page. We are developing a culture of invitation to special services eg Harvest All Souls, Christmas. We give away prayer cards at school services.

What Goals did you set where you saw less progress than you would have liked?

  • We gave up on Messy Church as the children have so many after school activities.
  • The regular congregation remains small despite continuing to develop a culture of invitation and use of websites/social media.

Things seen about our local community

  • A friendly and supportive village generally though geographically split by the river.
  • Unchanging numbers in congregation. Increased numbers of school services.
  • The only village pub has closed and the village hall is unsafe to use.

How have you begun to engage with these concerns / needs / issues?

  • 1. With no village hall we now use the church for community activities eg polling and cafe and broker the school for the Art Society’s use.
  • 2. We build on existing contacts with the school and community, publicising our worship/work/events in the Parish News, school/church websites and noticeboards, involving them in the annual flower festival.
  • We welcome people to concerts in church and collect for chosen charities. 4.We collect food for, support and welcome visitors from St Peter’s Church Bethnal Green. 5.Lists of 10 in the monthly Parish News promote understanding of Christian faith and life in accessible ‘bite sized’ pieces. 6. We offer regular confirmation courses and baptism preparation and weekly worship in school.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

To be a spirit led church, which is comfortable with what it is, but prayerful as to what God wants it to be and do.
