Our Looking

Things seen about our local community

  • Diverse community - a wide range of age groups, shops and businesses. Levels of prosperity wide-ranging, social facilities few.
  • The church is valued as a focal poiont in the community, good numbers coming to curch for festivals & Remembrance.
  • Our relationship with the local primary school is encouraging under its new Head.

Three things we have seen about our church

  • Committed to taking the Good News of Jesus Christ into community & seeking ways of engaging with changing community around us.
  • Have a strong ecumenical ministry team in which people work well together, although many becoming 'senior' in their years.
  • Our financial situation gives cause for concern.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

A church that has responded to the needs and diversity of community life and the wider world. A church that continues to serve its people pastorally. A church that is finding opportunities to allow others to experience the possibilities opened up by faith and belief in God, and which is showing them how this can be made real in everyday life through the Gospel of Christ. A church that all can feel welcomed in, and fully part of. A church that can be a true spiritual 'home' for all the community.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • 'Going Deeper into God' - offering opportunities for prayer and worship in different styles, & opportunities to learn and grow.
  • 'Transforming Communities' - actively seeking ways to bring the community together, support work of Community Centre.
  • 'Making New Disciples' - teaching the faith through Alpha & other means, create acts of worship to experience the love of God.

Goals (for the next year)

  • To recover church finances and encourage all involved with the church to offer time and skills.
  • Create alternative ways to raise funds for the maintenance and enhancement of the buildings and its contents.
  • Build upon the success of Alpha to improve spiritual outreach of the Church to both existing congregation & village of Walkern.
  • Develop closer links between the wider benefice of 5 parish churches and our ecumenical partners.
  • Develop and enhance links with the community of Walkern.
