Our Looking

What progress have you made with the Goals from your previous MAP, and what do you want to celebrate?

  • Good engagement with community, including use of Social Media.
  • Regular social events and annual Family Fun Day in conjunction with the new school.
  • Steady growth of congregation, but in particular growth and development of the ARK initiative.

What Goals did you set where you saw less progress than you would have liked?

  • Volunteer network - developing new initiatives is always challenging.
  • Strengthening our stewardship - a lack of skills and resource to deliver reliable and relevant financial information.

Things seen about our local community

  • Fabric maintenance and renovation required to update facilities.
  • Imminent growth in young people congregation as children from our new school move into a new age bracket.
  • Interest and demand for adult learning of the Scripture.

How have you begun to engage with these concerns / needs / issues?

  • New churchwardens are undertaking a review of the fabric requirements in conjunction with specialist tradespeople to inform potential costs and help set a programme of works.
  • Discussions underway to address growth in numbers and planning structured response to varying age groups.
  • Good response to recent Lent Course. Interest in additional adult learning opportunities.

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

Unchanged - We remain committed to our original Vision and that is to enrich the lives of individuals within our parish and community through sharing love, God’s Word and Sacraments. We pray that St John’s will continue to be at the heart of the community; alive, welcoming and relevant for all.

Current Situation

From our Parish Statistics for Mission, we see that we are / have...

A steadily increasing congregation number especially in the 0-10 age group.

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Develop a structured learning for our young people church offering across all age groups.
  • Strengthen our pastoral support, outreach and support our community groups, in particular our connections with the new school.
  • Build and strengthen our financial stewardship through the Parish Giving Scheme in particular.

Goals (for the next year)

  • Create a documented plan following the liturgical year that coordinates the offering to young people across all age groups.
  • Commit to deliver Scripture course for our adult congregation.
  • Re-introduce a mid-week Mass service (Wednesday's at 7pm)
  • Provide opportunity for both adults and young people to receive communion and move towards confirmation.
  • Introduce a Stewardship development plan with the help and guidance of the Church Growth Officer from the Diocese of St Albans.
