  • Variety in worship: monthly Kids' Worship, now held in the church school rather than the church

What Goals did you set where you saw less progress than you would have liked?

  • Did not develop a strategy for evangelism - mission energies spent on outreach, changing structure to fix.
  • Monthly family-friendly Parish Praise services languished - appeared to fall between the stools.

Things seen about our local community

  • Significant pockets of poverty, with above average incidence of lone parents
  • Some isolated elderly people
  • Poor co-ordination of service delivery; lack of charity shop

How have you begun to engage with these concerns / needs / issues?

  • Credit union, Foodbank, summer holiday hampers, CAP Money Course, St Helen's Community Fund
  • Wheathampstead Friends; 'living alone' Sunday lunches, Coffee in the Chancel (helps all areas)
  • Seeking to develop buildings for integrated service delivery; Coffee in the Chancel as an interim venue

Our Discerning

Vision (for five years' time)

By 2021 St Helen's and St Peter's will be Christian communities growing in Faith; growing in Numbers; growing in Loving Service

Current Situation

From our Parish Statistics for Mission, we see that we are / have...

stabilised after a period of decline. are older than the village demographics and are not reaching some geographic and socio-economic sectors

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • Faith: Help each one of us draw nearer to God by deepening our understanding of our Christian faith
  • Numbers: Bring more people of all ages to faith and the Good News of Jesus
  • Loving Service: Inspired by our faith, to live out God's love by serving our community

Goals (for the next year)

  • Confirm at least 20 young people and 20 adults over the five years
  • Present opportunities for all ages to develop their Christian experience through worship, social and teaching activities
  • Offer a variety of worship styles, including traditional and developing weekly contemporary worship
  • Attract an average of 10 new people per year into enquirers' and discipleship activities over the 5 years
  • See church-led activities provide help to at least 5 new families or individuals in genuine need each year
