Mission Without Borders

“Life was so difficult. I didn’t know who to ask for help. But Mission Without Borders listened to me. We now have hope and faith. We can cope better.”

Danijela was desperate, emotionally drained and struggling to provide for her three children alone. But now her life is dramatically different. Mission Without Borders (MWB) helped Danijela and her family with their most immediate needs for food and clothing. They then received long-term support through MWB’s Family-to-Family sponsorship scheme. Now Danijela, from Bosnia-Herzegovina, cheerfully declares that “we have made progress in every area of our lives. We can live independently. Mission Without Borders helped us to be self-sufficient.”

Reaching people for Christ

Across Eastern Europe more than three out of 10 people live in desperate poverty. MWB reaches thousands of the most vulnerable families, elderly and children suffering from homelessness, hunger and loneliness. “We do it because we believe that as Christians we are called to help others: we’re all part of the same body,” says MWB’s UK Director, David Hardisty.

Founded in 1960 as ‘Underground Evangelism’ to smuggle Bibles behind the Iron Curtain, MWB continues its Christian witness today by ministering to the spiritual, educational, emotional and material needs of those too poor to help themselves. By doing this, MWB is the church family in action: Supporters in the UK are involved in a variety of programmes that MWB undertakes in conjunction with local churches across Eastern Europe. These include sponsoring children and families; providing emergency food; mother-care and vocational training. The Broad family from Kent reiterate these family ties. For them, it is “a privilege to help the family we sponsor on their way. And we’ve gained so much: It’s been so good to have that personal relationship.”
