STOP PRESS – Funding for roof alarms: Allchurches Trust has today announced that after due consideration, the Trust has decided to hold to the closing date of 31st March 2017 for new applications to this scheme. The Trust has been glad to assist many parishes with grants to install roof protection systems and hopes to be able to help any others who are able to submit completed applications by the closing date. See www.allchurches.co.uk. Grants from Beds & Herts Historic Churches Trust and the Diocesan Board of Finance currently continue to be available.
Grants for roof alarms
The theft of metal from churches is a major threat. Its loss harms historic churches and causes shock, disruption and worry. Experience has shown that roof alarms are generally the best deterrent and complement SmartWater marking.
Grant aid is now available from three sources reflecting the priority being given to installing roof alarms: Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF), Beds & Herts Historic Churches Trust and the Allchurches Trust. VAT on the roof alarms can be reclaimed from the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme.
The Diocesan Board of Finance awards grants for church roof alarms from some small trust funds it administers. Here is the application form for a DBF grant towards the cost of a church roof alarm with its notes for applicants.
Applications are considered at a DBF or General Committee meeting and should arrive in the office no later than ten days before a meeting. 2017 meeting dates are: 31 January, 6 March, 28 March, 15 May, 20 June, 10 July, 10 October and 13 November.
