Four Mayors, an MP and 470 People Support Homeless People
Four mayors and an MP attended the twenty first annual Sleep Out at St Albans Cathedral in sub-zero temperatures last Friday night (December 5th) in support of homeless people.
Among the mayors taking part were the Mayors of Luton, Berkhamsted and Hertford and the Chairman of Three Rivers Council. They were joined by the MP for South West Beds, Andrew Selous supporting ‘Leighton Linslade Homeless Service’.
People from all over Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire gave their support to the event. They attend as individuals or groups from schools, youth groups, churches and businesses.
The event organiser Brian Peyton said “The Sleep Out is always well attended but this year`s event turned out to be a bumper one with 470 people sleeping out under the stars, half of whom were under 18yrs. The youngsters created a very festive atmosphere and everyone was in good spirits”.
The organisers hope to raise a large figure this year in support of ten homeless charities including local charities Open Door, Centre33 and Emmaus. Last year`s event raised over £41,000.
It is not too late to send money in support of one of the Charities details of which may be found on http://www.abbeysleepout.org.
