The Director of Mission will give a free copy of a new book to clergy in St Albans Diocese, on request.
The book is ‘Going for Growth,’ by Jeffrey John, the Dean of St Albans, and is a strategy for growth for smaller parishes in the central and catholic traditions.
The book contains a straightforward, practical strategy which can help a parish to grow.
In the book’s introduction, the Dean says: “It is a personal view, and its shortcomings are all mine. But you may also find one or two helpful ideas, which is what matters.”
Expanding on the book’s intended audience, the Dean said: “By a smaller parish, I mean one with fewer than 100 worshippers at the main Sunday Eucharist, or fewer than 70 communicants. The following strategy can help bring such a church up to a ‘ceiling’ attendance of around 150-200. ( A ceiling figure of this order seems to apply almost universally in a traditionally-structured Anglican congregation. Where a congregation grows beyond this size, it seems to depend on different structures and strategies which are not dealt with here.”
