Gordon Gray, a Reader in St Albans diocese is awarded the British Empire Medal
25th November 2022
Gordon Gray, a Reader in the parish of Eaton Bray with Edlesborough, was awarded the British Empire Medal in Queen Elizabeth II’s final birthday honours in June of this year.
The award was for community activities in Eaton Bray and surrounding area and was presented on Tuesday 22nd November by the HM Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Susan Lousada, at a ceremony at Cranfield University.
Gordon puts great effort into his teaching and preaching, which is much appreciated at St Mary’s, but he has also found time over the years to lead many fundraising activities which help maintain our grade 1 listed church building. Among his many achievements, St Mary’s Village Carnival grew from being a small church fête to the massive event it is today, the third largest such event in Bedfordshire! Through it, an amazing quarter of a million pounds has been shared between St Mary’s and many other charities. Gordon also initiated Music@StMarys and Open Gardens in the parish, and publishes a complex annual Christmas puzzle which has raised over £120,000 to support a wide variety of local, national and international charities.
