Icon Relay takes Celebrate 100 around
Yvonne Bell, a well-known and experienced icon writer, has created an icon for St Albans Diocese’s 100th anniversary celebration.
It is travelling around the diocese for the 100 days leading up to the Festival Day of Fun and Praise in Keysoe on 25th August, Bank Holiday Monday.
Why an icon?
Icons have been used as a way of visualising the Christian story and as a means to prayer and worship for many years. The Celebrate 100 icon will make its way around the diocese carrying the story of Christ in and with the peoples of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Barnet over the last 100 years and beyond.
Who is the icon for?
Just as Christ is for all people, so is this icon. It is specifically designed to represent all people – young and old – and to be handled, admired and used as an aid to worship and thanksgiving by all people.
Where is the icon going?
The icon will make its way across the diocese. Just as Jesus spent time with people on the edge and those outside the expected communities, so we’d especially like to get the icon to the very edges of our diocese and to spend time in or with the people and communities that we don’t perhaps at first expect.
Follow the icon’s pilgrimage on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/celebrate100iconrelay) and Twitter (@iconrelay) with the hashtags #celebrate100 #iconrelay.
There’s still time to ask for the icon to visit via facebook, twitter or emailing the Revd Simon Cutmore firstname.lastname@example.org
