Lent Day 3 – ‘Good News’

Friday 3rd March 2017

Luke 3 : 16-18

John answered all of them by saying, "I baptise you with water, but one who is more powerful than I is coming: I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary: but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to people.

  1. Lord, help us to be worthy. Gather us into Your storehouse and make us ready for Your purpose to unfold in us. May we show You to others, daily and faithfully, in a world where many doubt or reject. Send us the dove of peace and calmness of spirit in sharing and receiving the Good News.

  2. Lord help us to be more worthy. Gather us in Your storeroom to be ready for Your purpose to unfold in us. May we be strong and ready to share Your good news daily in this doubting world, in the strength of the Holy Spirit.

  3. On this day of world wide prayer, let us pray for all women and children. It is the women in many societies who inspire children. God be with them and their families.

  4. Who are the wheat and who are the chaff? This question has always concerned me.

    • I wonder whether we might be either according to circumstance. Perhaps some of our thoughts and actions are wheat-like and others decidedly more like chaff; I know that that applies to me. Perhaps the thing is to strive, with God’s grace, to be more like wheat and less like chaff. I have no idea how the final calculation is made, if such is the case. I’ll leave that to others to ponder!
