Lent Day 4 – 'One does not live on bread alone'

Saturday 4th March 2017

Luke 4 : 1-4

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished. The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread." Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'One does not live by bread alone.'"

  1. Help us to help others in whatever way is best for them and may we remember them in prayer.

  2. Social media and the advertising industry bombard us daily with promises of fulfillment and self actualisation. Buy this, look like this, follow me and you will be popular and enjoy life like the ‘celebrities’. This is todays version of temptation true happiness is not derived from fleeting good looks or a celebrity life-style, true happiness stems from following the path Christ has determined for us.

  3. Jesus uses quotes from scripture to refute the fake news from the tempter. Why is the spread of fake news in social media not combatted as such by the Church quoting scripture more often?

  4. Lord Jesus, help us to know when we are being tempted. Guide us through your Holy Spirit to read your word and pray to you constantly so that we may be guided and strengthened by you in our daily lives.
