Lent Day 17 – ‘A great banquet’

Monday 20th March 2017

Luke 5 : 29 – 32

Then Levi gave a great banquet for him [Jesus] in his house; and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes were complaining to his disciples, saying “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus answered, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

  1. We held a party and invited all the groups that use our premises. We and they each had 5 mins to talk about their activity (e.g. Zumba, Painting, Mums & Toddlers, Target shooting, Scrap-book making and Stop smoking)
while we enjoyed Pancakes and tea or coffee.

We must remind ourselves that it is not what we want that matters.

  3. This is amazing! Before I read today’s ‘Live the Challenge’ I had a conversation with a person who had experienced feeling excluded by these attitudes.

  4. This is close to my heart , I’ve felt excluded to the point where it forced me to question “are they right “, should I stay with my church. But with the love of God I and my family remained. That’s my point it’s God that welcomes us and all his children with an unconditional love , when will we learn this !

  5. I feel that one of the great mistakes made today is that generalisations condemn whole groups of people. We are all unique individuals made in the image of God and need to be treated accordingly.
