Progress

What progress are you celebrating since your previous MAP?

We have seen God at work through our Children’s Holiday Club. Nearly 100 children attended, with 67% of these children coming from outside the church community. Lots of these children have started coming to our after-school clubs – which are bursting at the seams at the moment.
We have seen God at work through our cold contact door-to-door visiting. Three families came to church as a result. The teenage children from one family has come to church on-and-off for several months now.
We have seen God at work through our Little Lyons baby and toddler group. Several women have started to read the Bible one-to-one – and a number have professed faith.

How far did you meet your previous priorities?
(1 star = Not at all → 10 stars = Done)

8 stars

Where has there been less progress than hoped for?

We tried to divide the holiday club in two – having one in October and one in February. We have since decided to stick to one holiday club a year. We are always impatient to see ever more fruit and sometimes our impatience needs to be tempered with the understanding that God’s timing is always perfect.

Vision

What is the vision for your Church, Parish, Team Ministry or Benefice?

Our five year vision is to be a gospel-centred church, prayerfully committed to the faithful teaching of the Bible. We want our members to be living for God’s glory in every part of life. We want to be a welcoming, sacrificial and Christ-preaching community. We want to reach the people of New Barnet with the good news of Jesus.

Values

What are the core values for your Church, Parish, Team Ministry or Benefice?

We value the Bible as the living word of God. We value the gospel as the message of the Bible. We value prayer as the means of drawing near to the throne of grace. We value God’s glory as the reason for everything. We value the cross of Jesus as the sacrifice that brings salvation to all who believe. We value love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

1st Priority

What is your 1st Priority to make your vision a reality?

Our first priority is, as a whole church family, to grow and develop our knowledge of the Bible

Which of the 3 strands of Living God’s Love does your 1st Priority most focus on?
Going deeper into God

SMART Goal to achieve your 1st Priority

Encourage every member of the church to come every week to our Wednesday night Bible study, so that they can engage personally with the word of God. We will do this by allocating each member of the church to a particular Bible-study group. The leaders of that group will then contact their group members and encourage them to come along. We will seek to provide babysitting where needed so that parents can attend.

SMART Goal 2 to achieve your 1st Priority

In the Sunday preaching we will aim for a systematic, expository coverage of the main themes of the Bible, including material from all the different genres of Bible literature. Those preaching will aim particularly to apply the truth of the Bible into the real lives of the church members – finding expression in every member ministry, making disciple-makers.

SMART Goal 3 to achieve your 1st Priority

We will encourage the children and youth to attend a summer camp, resourced by the church, where they will receive faithful Bible teaching and pastoral support over the course of 7 days. We will provide means-tested bursaries for children otherwise unable to attend. We will provide leaders, teaching materials and equipment to facilitate the running of this camp.

2nd Priority

What 2nd Priority are you working on to make your vision a reality?

Our second priority is, as a whole church family, to grow and develop our witness in the community

Which of the 3 strands of Living God’s Love does your 2nd Priority most focus on?
Transforming Communities

SMART Goal to achieve your 2nd Priority

Ask each Bible-study group to plan and run an outreach event each term. Equip the group leaders to give evangelistic talks at these events through one-to-one training. Encourage each group to develop follow-up plans – to enable sustained witness to those who attend such events.

SMART Goal 2 to achieve your 2nd Priority

Encourage children from the church family to invite their friends along to the after-school clubs on Mondays and Tuesdays. Provide flyers to equip them in this. Run a Christmas programme with a special outreach focus, to encourage newcomers to attend.

SMART Goal 3 to achieve your 2nd Priority

Equip our city workers to be involved in witness in their workplaces. Encourage church members to go along with their colleagues to lunchtime gospel talks, happening across the city of London. Run a centralised evening of prayer and training, concentrating on evangelism in the workplace. Visit individual church members in their workplaces, as appropriate.
