Progress

What progress are you celebrating since your previous MAP?

1. We have completed a Children’s area with thanks to the Diocesan Children’s Mission enabler. This has involved gathering Bible story based toys and has been well received especially during larger services with families attending- also for those attending weddings and baptisms. Covid-19 will have implications for the availability of toys which are shared, but we hope in due course to reinstate this. We have continued to develop our outreach to children and young families voting across the benefice to request permission from Bishop Alan to prepare children to receive Holy Communion before Confirmation and to develop one of our main Sunday services as an All Age Eucharist. Permission has now been granted to prepare children to be admitted to Communion before Confirmation.
2. We continue to work on our financial situation having a finance committee, setting a budget and
raising awareness of online giving. We were about to investigate card payments when the Covid-19 crisis started. We are more focussed around our financial situation. We had plans for a further talk from a local celebrity, a benefice wide ceilidh and other fundraising activities all of which have had to be postponed. We have developed the use of fundraising via online shopping. We are finding new ways of online fundraising.

3. We have begun to prepare a Statement of Needs and a Statement of Significance for the accessible entrance and the hospitality area. We remain cautious knowing that there are other projects such as heating and lighting as well as the possibility of other needs highlighted by the upcoming quinquennial.
4. The congregation has moved back into the nave due to Covid. We will retain this into the future.

How far did you meet your previous priorities?
(1 star = Not at all → 10 stars = Done)

7 stars

Where has there been less progress than hoped for?

We were making steady if slow progress which has been hampered by the illness and or bereavements of members of the PCC and then by Covid19, but progress has been made on all fronts with the exception of the Harvest service for our “belongers” and groups within the village.

Vision

What is the vision for your Church, Parish, Team Ministry or Benefice?

A congregation where all ages are serving, worshipping and growing in faith and in numbers. A bright and welcoming building which supports the work of a vibrant congregation and local community.

Values

What are the core values for your Church, Parish, Team Ministry or Benefice?

Things seen about our local community

1 There are a growing number of young families living in the village, they are time poor and hard to reach.
2. We are a well- resourced village with doctor’s surgery, pub, shop and church school. We have seen a tremendous willingness on the part of the community to help others during the Covid-19 crisis and the local village charity has begun to reach out more overtly. Engagement with church and village activities is limited.
3. Our church building is loved and used for Sunday worship and by others who drop in during the week, for prayer but can be cold.
4. A limited uptake by Barley parishioners of any of the homegroups offered within the benefice.

How have you begun to engage with these concerns/needs/issues

1.We repeated our Village Carols with another huge congregation, a superb atmosphere and the local pub provided some of the refreshments. We again included representatives of different groups within the village which was well received and appreciated. This will not happen this year due to Covid restrictions but it has been the catalyst and inspiration to know that we can reach out successfully.
2. We had a bumper number of baptisms planned for his year- all postponed due to the Covid19 crisis. We have encouraging but small signs of young people and children participating in worship more readily
3. Working towards the applications process for inclusive accessible access, and hospitality facilities.

Covid has challenged us but not deterred us from our determination to develop stronger and closer links with the community. It has also given us opportunities to reach out in digital form.
