Progress

What progress are you celebrating since your previous MAP?

• We continued to welcome all of Sutton VA School to our church on Friday afternoons, until the end of March. During lockdowns this has mainly been streamed from the church. However, where this was not possible, we have on-lined from Leader’s homes.
• During Lockdown 3, parents and children joined from home.
• We have seen God’s hand strengthening our church-school links. Sutton School Christmas Concert played to packed audiences in church for both performances. The concert is normally held in the village hall – as is the End of Year Celebration which would also have been held in church. Both of the Churchwardens are governors at the school.
• The church is represented on the Sutton School Parents Forum.
• Archdeacon Dave Baptised a pupil from the school this September who was a Friday Service Server.
• As we were in Interregnum, the Churchwardens ran the “Holy Communion Club” at Sutton School (which the previous Rector initiated). In addition to learning about the Sacrament – older children are offered training as Servers. The children can choose to lead the prayers and Readings for the school services and this has continued online.
• The Head teacher continues to serve on the PCC and both the church and school benefit from this collaboration.
• The Churchwardens were invited to carry out Collective Worship evaluations in school.
• Classes of children visit the church for curriculum enrichment: stewardship, rites of passage teaching, understanding giving, writing our school prayer together and learning church specific vocabulary taught practically.
• ‘Open The Book’ Collective Worship weekly in school.
• Both Churchwardens’ have attended the diocesan Lay Leadership Course.
• Improved liaison with Friends of Sutton Church
• Purchase of contact-free unit to support gifting.
• We continue to work hard to keep our building dry and sound for present and future generations. We review the quinquennial report at each PCC meeting.
• The south wall has been extensively repaired with funds from the Greensands Project and Friends of Sutton Church

Where has there been less progress than hoped for?

• Covid restrictions have reduced our fund raising and income from services. However, we have purchased a contactless unit to ease gifting, especially at out-door fund-raising events.
Obviously being without an Incumbent has had an impact on our speed of progress and updating some areas – for example reviewing our Liturgy.
