Giving for Life
ʼGiving for Life is a resource which enables parishes to take a strategic view of stewardship policy
Extract from the Guide to the PCC: “This guide has been commended to parishes for prayerful discussion and action by General Synod, who in doing so ʻencourage churchmembers (including children and young people) to live generously as disciples of Jesus Christ, joyfully giving time, skills, money and other resources to Godʼs mission in the worldʼ.
Many church members are already giving generously. Nationally church members give an average of just over 3% of income to and through the church. Yet General Synod also ʻchallenges church assess annually their financial giving as a proportion of income, and to take as an initial target 5% of after-tax income to and through the church, and a similar amount to other work that helps to build God’skingdom in times of economic stringency as well as of plenty, in response to the lavish generosity of God to us in Christ.ʼ”
Giving for Life outlines four key themes:
- Generous Giving
and four key actions:
- Preaching and Teaching Generous Giving
- Linking Giving to Mission and Ministry
- Annual Review of Giving
- Thanking Givers
Copies of a booklet to help PCCs think through these issues, and other related materials are available from the Mission Resourcing Officer.
