Pastoral Ministry – Principles and Practicalities

This five session course, produced by the Diocese, is for anyone interested or involved in Christian pastoral ministry. It aims to support and equip anyone who is seeking to share Christ’s love and compassion with those they meet in a formal or informal setting.

Session 1: Called to care: pastoral ministry and Christian discipleship
Session 2: The pastoral encounter: building relationships
Session 3: Talking about God: praying with people
Session 4: Challenging encounters: dealing with difficult situations
Session 5: Safe practice: confidentiality, communication and accountability

There is no requirement that participants write assignments or do extensive reading.

Participants who attend all five sessions may use this course to achieve the Equipping God’s People Specialist Bronze Award in Pastoral Care.

Parishes, benefices and deaneries are encouraged to run the course locally. We can provide the facilitator’s and participants’ manuals (or send you electronic copies) and in some cases we can help you with promoting the course more widely.
